They meet again on a case. And a sort of partnership develops. They are both adventurous people who don't mind the danger. There is a definite physical attraction between them. Beth later on learns that Mick is actually a vampire. At first, she's confused and a bit at loss as to how to act. But she decides to learn more about him. The reporter in her asks him a ton of questions about how vampires live. Trust builds between them.

At numerous times, Beth saves Mick's life. First she shoots a bad man to save Mick, then she takes a stake out of Mick. And Mick in turn saves her from a psycho T.A. They are there for each other. And they keep falling more for each other.

In a touching scene, they share an emotional hug. Mick is deeply moved by it especially since he hadn't felt a human touch in years and years. Later on, Mick lets Beth slowly into his life. He even tells her that she's the first human who knows about who/what he is...and most importantly, he tells her that trusts her. That's a huge step because trust does not come easy for him. Especially not after his ex-wife had lied to him...betrayed him. Mick opens up to Beth about his past. Their friendship is growing...and it's obvious that they are both smitten with each other.
